The experts ran separate operations, with Mandhare conducting classes in her residence, Kulkarni teaching students at his home, and Havaldar engaging in one-off transactions. What stands out is the use of WhatsApp groups, Telegram, and even a 'Fifa world cup 2026' group to coordinate and disseminate the leaked information. This digital trail, combined with the physical exchange of cash and gifts, showcases the intricate web of activities that unfolded.
The CBI's investigation also revealed a broader network of intermediaries and aspirants involved in the leak. The recovery of leaked material and its subsequent matching with the master sets confirmed the extent of the breach. Interestingly, a Kerala MBBS student's act of forwarding the PDFs to his father's landlord in Sikar led to the exposure of the leak, demonstrating the role of chance in uncovering such scandals.
In my view, this incident underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in examination security. The NTA must reevaluate its protocols, ensuring that experts are not given carte blanche access to sensitive materials. Additionally, the role of technology in both facilitating leaks and aiding investigations cannot be overlooked. While digital platforms can be exploited for illicit activities, they also leave behind a traceable trail, as evidenced by the CBI's findings.
